PROJECT BACKGROUND

Richmond is the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As one of the cities that are developing at the Fall Line and with highways and ferry routes intersecting within the territory of the city, Richmond plays a significant role in trading, serving as a hub that connects North Carolina, Washington D.C., Virginia Beach and Charlottesville.

Patterns of pedestrian circulation, traffic heaviness, and water movement has been summarized and categorized into five types. Each typology was applied by a particular strategy to slow down water movement and make it exposed to the public. A new urban park system is envisioned that not only helps reduce the existing rainwater drainage pressure but also involves people to the process of one drop of rainwater going on a long journey all the way towards the James River.
