Deconstruction

Deconstruction

PROJECT BACKGROUND

A casteller, also known as Muxiganga in some places, is a human tower built traditionally in festivals at many locations within Catalonia. At these festivals, several colles castelleres (groups who construct towers) often succeed in building and dismantling a tower's structure.

The site is a transition zone between the city and the sea, located at La Barceloneta, a famous beach neighborhood in Barcelona, Spain. Through studying the structure and process of building a casteller, we were inspired by the ephemerality of this construction. The idea of " Deconstruction"  is aimed to reverse this process in the form of a permanent structure at building scale, which performed as a multi-functional and flexible public space that equip the neighborhood with facilities for Muxiganga performance and an interactive installation for regular beach days as well.
